Firmounth Road

An ancient drover's road which crosses The Mounth between Angus and Aberdeenshire, the Firmounth Road connects Glen Esk with Deeside. Following the same track as The Fungle, north from Tarfside through Glen Tarf to Shinfur, Firmounth Road branches off to the north as the route approaches the border with Aberdeenshire. Running along the border the path crosses the summit of Tampie and then descends between the Hill of St. Colm and Gannoch, passing along the eastern slopes of Craigmahandle before entering the Forest of Glentanar. It then falls into Glen Tanar, where it runs alongside the Water of Tanar opposite Glen Tanar House, turning northeast to Bridge o' Ess and Aboyne.
