Mounie Castle

A small fortalice in the Formartine district of Aberdeenshire, Mounie Castle lies 3 miles (5 km) west of Oldmeldrum, near the village of Daviot. Built on a T-plan in the 17th century for the Seton family, this castle comprises a long three-storey block with crow-stepped gables. In the centre there is a round stair-tower capped by a watch-chamber. The castle was bought by the Farquhar family in 1634 and passed to the Hay family in 1701. It later came back into Seton ownership but was sold in 1970. The castle remains occupied.
