Thornton Castle

A mediaeval fortress to the north of the Vale of Strathmore in the Howe of the Mearns in Aberdeenshire Council Area, Thornton Castle lies 2 miles (3 km) west of Laurencekirk and is a former seat of the Strachan family. The grounds of the castle are used for growing daffodils and tulips which are exported world-wide.
