Gilmerton House

A fine Georgian mansion set in a 405-ha (1000-acre) estate, Gilmerton House is located a mile (1.5 km) east of Athelstaneford in East Lothian. It was constructed in the middle of the 18th century for Sir David Kinloch of Gilmerton and comprises seven bays, the middle three topped by a fine red sandstone pediment. The house was altered in 1828 by William Burn (1789 - 1870), who added a porch, altered the east aspect and enhanced the interior. The long music room is of particular note. It was designed as a library and features rich wood-panelling, together with a fine ceiling decorated with Rococo swirls.

Still owned by the Kinloch family, this Grade-A listed house is available as an exclusive retreat.
