Kilravock Castle is located between Croy and Clephanton, 5 miles (10 km) southwest of Nairn and 10 miles (14 km) east of Inverness. Nearby sits Cawdor Castle. Overlooking the River Nairn, the tower was built in 1460 by the Rose family of Nairnshire, the mansion extension was added in the 17th Century. The castle has been visited by Mary, Queen of Scots (1542-87), Bonnie Prince Charlie (1720-88), the Duke of Cumberland (1721-65) and Robert Burns (1759-96).
