Gairnshiel Lodge

A late 19th-century shooting lodge in Glen Gairn, Aberdeenshire, Gairnshiel Lodge lies on the River Gairn, 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Ballater. It was built around a core which dates from 1746 and was the property of the Gardens of Troup. In the 19th C. it was acquired by the Farquharsons and incorporated into their neighbouring Invercauld Estate. Queen Victoria writes of Gairnshiel in her journal, while notable sporting visitors have included King George V, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II.
