Threave Countryside Centre

Surrounding Threave Gardens is the 492 hectare (1215 acre) Threave Estate which highlights the integrated approach to land management taken by the National Trust for Scotland, with emphasis on forestry, agriculture and nature conservation. There are important wetlands within the estate and these provide a refuge for various wildfowl, the estate is a designated wildfowl refuge. Ranger services areas available through the visitor's Countryside Centre. A 1½-mile (2.5 km) nature trail guides visitors through the estate and to a visitor centre which was created in 1975. The estate was gifted to the Trust in 1948 by Major A. F. Gordon of Threave. For the Trust, receiving a complete working estate, comprising house, gardens, four farms and woodlands, provided a unique management and educational opportunity.
