A parish and mansionhouse in Dumfries and Galloway, Balmaghie lies to the west of the River Dee and Castle Douglas. Balmaghie House is said to stand on lands acquired by an Irish chieftain called M'Ghie whose descendants were granted charters by the Stewart kings. There is a deer park close by.
