Inverewe House

A house and estate in Wester Ross, lying to the north of Poolewe. The original house was built by Osgood Mackenzie around 1870, he having bought what was then a 4860 ha (12,000 acre) estate in 1862. This Scottish Baronial style house was destroyed by fire and a replacement built by Mackenzie's son-in-law in 1935.

Today, the estate is reduced to some 890 ha (2200 acres). Both estate and the remarkable gardens surrounding the house were given to the National Trust for Scotland by Mackenzie's daughter, Mrs Mairi Sawyer, in 1952.
