Turnberry Point

A rocky headland, with the low bluffs of a raised beach behind, Turnberry Point is located at the northern end of Turnberry Bay, a mile (1.5 km) north northwest of the village of Turnberry and 1¼ miles (2 km) west southwest of Maidens in South Ayrshire. On the point are the 13th-century Turnberry Castle, regarded by many as the birth-place of Robert the Bruce in 1274, and a Stevenson lighthouse built in 1873. Behind are Turnberry's championship golf courses and Turnberry Airfield, an abandoned wartime air base.
