Hestan Rack

A shingle tail which extends north from Hestan Island towards Almorness Point on the northern shore of the Solway Firth (Dumfries and Galloway), Hestan Rack provides access to the island at low tide. Mussels were harvested from here in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by the people of Kippford who sent them to England via the railway station at Dalbeattie.
