Curriehill Railway Station

(Currie Hill Station; Cnoc Churraich)

Curriehill Railway Station (Gael: Cnoc Churraich) lies on the Shotts Line, a half-mile (1 km) northwest of Currie and 1¼ miles (2 km) east of Newmills in the City of Edinburgh Council Area. This station opened in 1848 but closed 1951. Increasing demand brought a new station on the same site as the original, which opened on 5th October 1987. It is preceded by Wester Hailes Railway Station, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the northeast, and followed by Kirknewton, 4½ miles (7 km) to the west. Operated by ScotRail, Curriehill Railway Station is unstaffed and is used by 67,000 passengers per annum (2015-16). Heriot-Watt University lies a half-mile (0.8 km) to the north.
