A railway station and junction, Georgemas Junction (Gael: Snaidhm Georgemas) is located on the west side of the A9 Trunk Road 1¼ miles (2 km) east of Halkirk in central Caithness. It is preceded by Scotscalder Railway Station, 4½ miles (7 km) to the west southwest, but here the railway splits, with one branch bearing north to a terminus at Thurso and the other heading southeast to end at Wick. This station was opened in 1874 on the former Sutherland & Caithness Railway. Now operated by ScotRail, Georgemas Junction is unstaffed and was used by only 1482 passengers in 2009-10.
