Evanton Station

(Novar Station)

A former station on the Highland Railway, Evanton lay on the Far North Line, at Culcairn on the opposite bank of the River Glass from Evanton, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) northeast of the village centre. This station opened in 1863 on the Inverness & Aberdeen Junction Railway, but closed to passengers in 1960 with its use for goods services ending four years later. It was originally known as Novar Station, as it served Novar House, but was renamed Evanton in 1937. The nearest operational station is Alness, 3¾ miles (6 km) to the northeast.
