Overview of Tullibardine Chapel

An ancient but well-maintained collegiate church in central Perthshire, Tullibardine Chapel is located at West Mains of Tullibardine in Strath Earn, 2 miles (3 km) west northwest of Auchterarder and 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Crieff. One of the most complete small Mediaeval churches in Scotland, was founded in 1446 by Sir David Murray of Tullibardine Castle, which once stood nearby. A fine armorial plaque on the north wall of the chancel displays the arms of Sir David and his wife, Isobel Stewart. It was rebuilt c.1500 and remains unaltered to this day. Following the Reformation, the chapel became the burial vault for the Murrays of Tullibardine, a subsidiary title to the Dukes of Atholl. It has been in the care of Historic Scotland since 1951.
