Hairmyres Station

A modern unmanned halt on the East Kilbride branch of the Glasgow South Western railway, Hairmyres Station now lies on the western edge of the New Town of East Kilbride. It lies 1½ miles (2.5 km) west of East Kilbride (the terminus) and a similar distance east southeast of Thorntonhall. It opened in 1868 as a rural station on the Busby and East Kilbride branch of the Caledonian Railway, later serving the hospital which grew up nearby. It is now used by more than 400,000 passengers per annum. This section of line is single-track.
