Kinghorn Ness

A headland on the northern shore of the Firth of Forth, Kinghorn Ness defines the point at which the Firth widens markedly and is located a half-mile (1 km) south of Kinghorn. The hamlet of Pettycur lies on the western side of the Ness. The Kinghorn Battery was established here in 1880 and improved over the succeeding years as part of the defences of the Firth of Forth. It was extended by the addition of the Pettycur Battery to the west during the First World War.
