A tied island on the east coast of the island of Gairsay, within the Stronsay Firth to the north of the Orkney Mainland, the Hen of Gairsay rises to just above 20m (65 feet). It is connected to the larger part of Gairsay by a tombolo which is the site of a burnt mound called Sweyn's Castle.
