Eye Peninsula

(Point, An Rubha)

A peninsula in the Western Isles, known locally as Point (Gael: An Rubha), the Eye Peninsula lies 4 miles (6 km) east of Stornoway. It is connected to the rest of Lewis by a slender strip of land, the Braigh, between Loch a' Tuath and Loch Braigh na h-Aoidhe. The peninsula extends northeastwards out into the Minch for 7 miles (11 km) terminating at Tiumpan Head. Its maximum width is 3 miles (5 km) and includes a number of scattered crofting settlements. Much of the population commutes to work in Stornoway.
