MacLellan's Castle, Kirkcudbright

Built in 1582 by Sir Thomas MacLellan of Bombie to an L-shaped plan, MacLellan's Castle is located within Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Galloway. It is claimed that it was never really finished as the MacLellan's fell on hard times, losing most of their estates by 1664 and deserting the castle in 1700. The ruined remains were taken into state care in 1912 and are now looked after by Historic Scotland.
