The Tall Ship: SV Glenlee, Glasgow

Located next to the Riverside Museum in Glasgow, to the southwest of the Clydeside Expressway, the Glenlee is one of only five Clyde-built sailing ships which are still afloat. Built in 1896, she is typical of a 19th Century barque and transported cargo across the globe, including tea, cocoa, cinnamon and spices from the East Indies. The Glenlee had circumnavigating the world on four occasions before becoming a Spanish Naval training ship in 1922. She was purchased by the Clyde Maritime Trust in 1992 and restored to her former glory over a period of six years.

She was formerly berthed further along Yorkhill Quay, nearer the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre but moved in 2011 in time for the opening of the new museum.
