The Arched House

Located in Ecclefechan 6 miles (9.5 km) southeast of Lockerbie in Dumfries and Galloway, The Arched House was the birthplace of the Scottish writer and historian Thomas Carlyle. Built by his father and uncle in 1795, the property, now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland, houses a collection of his belongings and portraits, as well as being furnished in a style reflective of his time.
