Cromarty

A dispersed ancient county of Highland Scotland, Cromarty comprised the estates of the Mackenzies of Tarbat, who became the Earls of Cromarty from 1703. The nucleus of the county was around the county town, also Cromarty, on Black Isle on the south shore of the Cromarty Firth, together with tracts of land scattered through the adjacent Ross-shire, extending to Loch Broom on the west coast. Cromarty was united with Ross-shire, to form Ross and Cromarty in 1889.
