Imax Cinema, The
IMAX Cinema and Glasgow Science Centre, Pacific Quay
©2011 Gazetteer for Scotland
Occupying the part of the site of the 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival, Scotland's only IMAX cinema is located at Pacific Quay in the Govan area of the city. Sited within a titanium "egg" on the southern bank of the River Clyde, the cinema opened in 2000 and is part of Glasgow's Lottery funded Science Centre. IMAX films are enormous images, which fill the entire field of vision and give the viewer the ability to "escape into" the action.
