Created in the 1920s and opened by the Duchess of York (later Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother), the National Memorial to David Livingstone in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, celebrates the life and work of the African missionary-explorer David Livingstone who was born in Blantyre in 1813. Established at his birthplace in a mill house by the River Clyde, the Centre is now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.
