Sound of Eriskay


(Caolas Eiriosgaigh)

A channel which lies between the islands of Eriskay and South Uist in the Western Isles, the Sound of Eriskay (Gael: Caolas Eiriosgaigh, incorrectly on recent Ordnance Survey maps as Caloas Eiriosgaigh) is approximately a mile (1.5 km) in width. Once crossed by a ferry which ran from Ludag (South Uist) to Huan (Eriskay), but this was replaced by a causeway which opened in 2002.
