Horse of Copinsay

Surrounded by cliffs, the Horse of Copinsay comprises either an islet or a large sea stack, depending on ones definition, which rises to a height of 28m (91 feet) a half-mile (1 km) north of Copinsay and 2 miles (3 km) east southeast of the Point of Ayre on the Orkney Mainland. Although never inhabited, sheep were once grazed here, and pigs fattened on the seabird eggs which abound. At its northeast tip is Blaster Hole, which can send a jet of water 60m (200 feet) into the air during an easterly storm.
