Buchan

A district of NE Aberdeenshire, Buchan lies between the Ythan and the Deveron rivers with an extensive coastline that includes the fisher towns of Fraserburgh and Peterhead. Sometimes the district of Formartine between the Don and the Ythan is also considered part of Buchan. The coast is often dramatic, as at the Bullers of Buchan, but the interior is largely flat agricultural land rising only to 230m (755 feet) at Mormond Hill to the west of the Loch of Strathbeg. It has been described as the 'Land of Cakes' and the 'Land of Plenty' because of its rich farmland and prosperous coastal towns.
