It stretches from Rannoch Moor in the west to Glen Isla in the east and to the River Almond in the south. Amongst its high peaks are Schiehallion (1083m / 3547 feet) and Beinn a' Ghlo (1121m / 3671 feet) and chief amongst its rivers are the Tay, Tummel, Garry, Ardle and Braan. At its centre is Blair Atholl and Blair Castle, seat of the Dukes of Atholl, a branch of the Murray family. The district is noted for a delicacy known as Atholl Brose which is made from whisky, honey and eggs.
