Ness


(Nis)

An area of crofting townships at the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles, Ness (Gael: Nis) lies to the south of the Butt of Lewis. Over 90% of the people speak Gaelic. The men of Ness are known for their annual Guga hunt, which sees them sail 41 miles (66 km) north to the remote island of Sula Sgeir each Autumn and harvest young gannets.
