Dunfallandy Stone

A well preserved Pictish cross-slab dating from the 8th or 9th century AD, the Dunfallandy Stone situated in a small grove of trees on the lower slopes of Dunfallandy Hill, a mile (1.5 km) to the south of Pitlochry. The ornate decoration includes human figures and zoomorphic designs. The front of the stone features a cross divided into panels of interlaced ornament, flanked by angels and beasts. The rear shows seated figures on either side of a smaller cross, framed by serpents, together with a horseman, tools and various symbols. The stone is maintained by Historic Scotland who have encapsulated it in a protective cover.
