Ballantrae Bay

A broad bay on the South Ayrshire coast, Ballantrae Bay extends between Bennane Head in the north and Downan Point in the south with a total length of some 4 miles (7 km). The settlement of Ballantrae lies behind a small spit in the centre of the bay. To the north the bay is filled with sand and rock beach, while to the south, around the outflow of the River Stinchar, it is shingle. There is a nature reserve at Kinniegar at the southern end of the bay.
