Hopetoun Monument

On Mount Hill, about 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Cupar, is the conspicuous 29m (95-foot) column erected in 1824 in memory of Sir John Hope, the 4th Earl of Hopetoun (1765 - 1823) and heroic soldier who fought in the Battle of Corunna (Spain) and successfully evacuated the British army thereafter.
