Whiteadder Reservoir

A large reservoir retained by an earth embankment dam in East Lothian, the Whiteadder Reservoir lies along the course of the Whiteadder River, 2 miles (3 km) northwest of Cranshaws and 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Duns. Completed in 1968, the reservoir was built to supply water to the towns of East Lothian but also to the power station at Cockenzie, which had opened the previous year. It is now operated by Scottish Water and extends to an area of 120.8 ha (298 acres).
