Loch Lomond Golf Club

An exclusive golf resort which opened in 1994, and was initially developed into a major venue on the international circuit. The resort occupies 267 ha (660 acres) of parkland leased from the Luss Estates, with the 18th century Rossdhu House forming the clubhouse.

The course was designed by American golfer Tom Weiskopf and golf-course architect Jay Morrish, in conjunction with Arizona-based developer Lyle Anderson. It extends to 7100 yards (6492m) and is a par 71. Despite joining fees which are around three times the average annual Scottish salary, the developer faced bankruptcy in 2001 and the course was taken over by a consortium of its leading members, said to include Sir Sean Connery and HRH Prince Andrew. Other members are said to have included golfers Sandy Lyle and Nick Faldo, footballer Ally McCoist, football manager Walter Smith, motor-racing champion Sir Jackie Stewart and entrepreneur Robert Wiseman. Actor Clint Eastwood is reported to have played a round here and golfer Colin Montgomerie married at the resort in 2008.

The Loch Lomond World Open began in 1996, an event which became the Scottish Open in 2001. The Scottish Open moved in 2011, to ensure the exclusivity of the Loch Lomond course for its members.
