Fowl Craig

A section of low cliffs on the northeast coast of the island of Papa Westray in Orkney, Fowl Craig is located 2¼ miles (3.5 km) north northeast of the settlement of Holland. The cliffs rise to 15m (50 feet) above sea level and are penetrated by natural arches and caves. Fowl Craig is notable as the last nesting place of the Great Awk in Britain, with the final unfortunate creature shot by a local hunter in 1813. This extinct bird is now commemorated by the Great Awk Monument, located nearby.
