A conical summit located a half-mile (0.8 km) north of Duns in the E Scottish Borders, Duns Law rises to 218m (715 feet). The hill is crowned by a prominent Iron-Age hill fort lying within defensive ramparts. Within this ancient hill fort are the foundations of a more recent military earthwork which was constructed by General Alexander Leslie (c.1582 - 1661) during the First Bishops' War in 1638. His troops had occupied the hill and are said to have raised the Covenanter's standard at a site now marked by the Covenanter's Stone.
