Mabie Forest

Located in the southeast corner of the Galloway Forest Park in Dumfries and Galloway, Mabie Forest lies between Dumfries and New Abbey. Purchased by the Forestry Commission in 1943, it has at its core the 19th-century landscaped policy of Mabie House, which even on the First Edition of the Ordnance Survey map of 1854 was shown to extend west to form the sizeable Mabie Wood. There are a number of waymarked cycle routes, two of which pass through the Forest Nature Reserve of Lochaber Loch noted for its butterflies and old oak trees. Mabie is now managed by Forestry and Land Scotland.
