Located within the Galloway Forest Park, the Forest of Ae lies to the north of Dumfries in the catchment of the Water of Ae. Predominantly a coniferous forest, the Forest of Ae has a number of waymarked cycle routes. There is also an open air collection of historic forestry ploughs, some of which were used locally by the Clarks of Parkgate.
