Memsie Cairn

(Cairn of Memsie)

Situated at the southeastern edge of the village of Memsie, 3½ miles (5.5 km) south of Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire, the 24-m (79-feet) diameter Memsie Cairn is thought to have been of Bronze Age origin but much expanded by field clearance and now comprising a large mound of stones. There were once two other large and many other smaller cairns here, but these were plundered to build nearby walls in the later 18th and 19th centuries. The site is managed by Historic Environment Scotland.
