White Stane of Housifield

A natural block of white Quartz-Kyanite rock, the largest of many scattered over the eastern slopes of Housi Field in the N of Unst in Shetland, the White Stane of Housifield is located a short distance southeast of the summit and a mile (1.5 km) north northwest of Haroldswick. These metamorphic rocks derive from sizeable veins that run through the kyanite-chloritoid schist which forms the bedrock hereabouts.
