Vad

(A Bhàd)

An isthmus which separates the substantial sea lochs of Loch Mhic Phail from Loch Maddy in the NE of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, Vad (Gael: A Bhàd) conveys the single-track road to Lochportain and Cheese Bay in the extreme northeast of the island. Were it not for this finger of land, about 30m (100 feet) in width at its narrowest, a substantial area of NE North Uist would form a separate island.
