Glen Derry

(Gleann Doire)

A remote valley in W Aberdeenshire, Glen Derry (Gael: Gleann Doire) cuts through the Cairngorm Mountains to the north of Glen Lui, 8 miles (13 km) west northwest of Braemar. The Derry Burn descends through the valley to meet the Lui Water at Derry Lodge. Plantation forest in the lower section of the valley gives way to bare ground higher up. Derry Cairngorm dominates the western side of the valley which reaches Corrie Etchachan, in the shadow of Ben Macdui, at its head.
