Vale of Leven Academy

A large modern non-denominational comprehensive state school in West Dunbartonshire, the Vale of Leven Academy lies between Alexandria and Renton, on the banks of the River Leven. The school was built in 2008-09 at a cost of £24.5 million following a fire in 2002 which destroyed much of the former building that lay immediately to the west. The campus-style school has a roll of 970 pupils (2015), together with state-of-the-art classrooms and four sports pitches.

The previous building was begun by Dunbartonshire County Council in 1962 and later extended using the prefabricated CLASP system. The new school was constructed on the playing fields of this old building and is run by West Dunbartonshire Council.
