General Monk's Battery
(General Monck's Battery)

An earthwork located on high ground to the north of Roslin Glen in Midlothian, General Monk's (or Monck's) Battery lies a half-mile (0.8 km) east of Roslin, with clear views over Rosslyn Castle, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the southwest, which it was built to attack. General Monk (1608-70) attacked the castle with a force of 600 men in 1650 and it fell within days. The entire northwestern side of the castle was brought down.
