Scalloway Leisure Centre

One of a number of 'standardised' leisure centres built across Shetland funded by oil revenues, Scalloway Leisure Centre is located next to Scalloway Junior High School, a quarter-mile (0.4 km) north northeast of the village centre. Opened on 4th April 1993, the leisure centre includes a 16.7m (55 foot) four-lane swimming pool, separate toddler's pool, spa pool and steam room. It is run by the Shetland Recreational Trust and was built with funds from the Shetland Charitable Trust that distributes the so-called Disturbance Receipts, intended to compensate the people of Shetland for siting the oil terminal at Sullom Voe.
