Cowdenknowes Reservoir

A small reservoir in Greenock (Inverclyde), Cowdenknowes Reservoir is located a half-mile (1 km) southwest of the town centre. Impounded by earth embankments, it was built to ensure a constant water supply to power industry in the town. Shown on Andrew MacFarlane's map of 1842 as the Shaws Water Reservoir, it lies immediately to the east of the Town Reservoir, which is rather older.
