Lockharton

A small district in SW Edinburgh, Lockharton lies between Meggetland and Craiglockhart, 2¼ miles (3.5 km) southwest of the city centre. Its northern boundary is defined by Colinton Road, while Happy Valley is located immediately to the south. It comprises the streets of Lockharton Avenue, Lockharton Gardens and Lockharton Crescent. Many of the houses were built in the early years of the 20th C. before the need for garages and a large building was constructed later, next to Craiglockhart Pond, to take the resident's cars. During the Second World War this building was used by the Royal Navy to test marine engines.
