Beecraigs Wood

A plantation forest in the Bathgate Hills of West Lothian, Beecraigs Wood is located 2 miles (3 km) south of Linlithgow. 19th C. maps show deciduous shelter belts and a sizeable woodland at Hay Hill, which was planted to supply pit-props to the oil-shale mines of the area. The coniferous forest was greatly enlarged from 1922, with a total of 240 ha (593 acres) planted until 1973. The wood now forms a substantial part of Beecraigs Country Park.
