Muirhouse Water Tower

Muirhouse Water Tower is a distinctive steel structure and notable landmark located behind Barons Road in Muirhouse (North Lanarkshire), 1¼ miles (2 km) southeast of the centre of Motherwell. This domed tower is 27.7m (91 feet) high and 12.2m (40 feet) in diameter. It is notable as the first in the United Kingdom to be built to the American 'Horton' design, designed and constructed by the local Motherwell Bridge & Engineering Company. The tower provides the necessary height to supply nearby houses with drinking water, which has to be pumped into the structure and is then released under the effects of gravity.
